Wars for Fools

Recently I've been asked by nearly every gamer friend I know about which new generation system I'll be purchasing at the end of the year - The PS4 or the Xbone.

In all honesty, neither.

I rarely ever buy a new console system at release. I can't seem to find enough reasons to buy the system other then that its a new shiny piece of hardware to stick on my shelve and marvel over.

Now don't get my wrong, I hold nothing against those that buy new consoles but I'm just not one of them. I feel like in this day and age, the game-market super giants really doesn't treat their buyers like they have any common sense, which alot of the time, they don't. Slap a shiny piece of crap on the tv and say it has a FPS exclusive and the fanboys will go batshit. Blah.

Gone are the days of true gaming. Some might claim that the gaming industry has never been stronger, but can you really say that a market choking with generic first person shooters and simple to play handhelds strong? Either everything is mind numbing or so complex, you're nearly required to buy a guidebook just to understand how anything works.

I'm ranting at this point, but its my opinion and its my blog so I'm allowed..

Just this year I finally picked up the PS3. Its at its peak, it has a wonderful selection of great titles and downloadable features that only took it about 6 years to obtain.. I don't really find myself wishing I had bought it earlier either, since I had a great time still playing my PS2 up until now. Heck, I still play plenty of my PS2 games even after buying the PS3.

I think people forget that just because something is old or not heavy commercialized, isn't bad! Everything that you loved back in 04 is still great.

I just wish people would stop acting like mindless sheep, buying and fawning over everything Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo shits out every few years.. But they won't.. and the cycle will continue..

Angst and Grumpy

Always sucky when you really enjoy a game and its completely ruined by horrible players. Either its "Lag" or just game glitching, its no excuse for poor playing skills.
Still unsure why you would just sit there for 2 minutes during a boss fight, but you're horrible and I'm asking all bad players to stop. If you can't play a game after 20+ hours of learning, then you should just remove yourself from the game completely.

I know I'm just ranting and bitching but its my blog and I am a hermit..so blah.

The excitement of a new drop!

When it comes to Action RPG's, loot is everything. Most flaws can be forgiven when you're given oodles of gear at every turn..well not ever flaw, but it helps ignoring them.

Kings Road is such a game that the gear is literally forced down your throat around the middle levels. I'm fighting to keep my inventory space open so I can click on all the lovely purple epics but I never can keep up. Playing the wizard class doesn't make matters any better, given our talent; Treasure Hunter, when maxed provides at 100%  drop chance increase. Its rather hilarious and very rewarding when you finally slay the dungeon boss and they explode into a glorious pile of green, blue and purple items, along with some crappy greys and crafting mats. I even sing a lil tone when click looting...dododooo!

Its sad when a free to play browser game keeps me both entertained and excited more then a multi-million dollar "super release".

Facebook Games

Recently got into two Facebook games. The first is a tower defense game called Towers of Mystoria. I'm sad to report I've become very addicted to this game. I'm often checking and rechecking my town hum to upgrade builds, collect building materials and wage war of pixel goblins. God forbid I let my resources go unchecked...oh lordy.

The other is a Diablo 2/Tourchlight 2 clone called Kings Road. Real simple concept. You play either a Knight, Archer or Wizard and you run around killing everything in your path for phat loot and gold. Apparently it has a story but I have no time to stop and read text, I have some killing to do. Despite being free to play, the game is heavily limited in item space. Your given a grand total of 16 slots of inventory. Of course the game does give a bank...of 8 slots. These inventories can be upgraded with prepaid currency.. luckily the game rewards you for completing missions and dungeons with said currency. Unfortunately everything from stat boosting potions to character skin outfits requires them..

But even with all the negative features, I'm totally addicted. The loot system is actually really good, you'll find upgrades for each class every few runs and gold should never be a problem. My only gripe is the lack of space, too often am I trying to decide which epic item I should cast away for the next.

I still weep for my lost epic bow...but I couldn't pass up on that ring. Alas, fashionably accessorizing to kill far outweighs gearing my alt class.

The wild wild west..

So I purchased a copy of Wild Arms 2 on the Playstation Network the other day, along with a hand full of other titles. Despite my distaste for what the franchise has become, Wild Arms 2 remains my favorite in the western RPG series.

For those who have never heard or played the series - Wild Arms is set in the world of Filgaia, a planet resembling the American old west with a touch of forgotten science and magic. Each title in the series sets Filgaia in a different post apocalyptic setting, ranging from alien evasion, to a science experiment gone wrong.

In Wild Arms 2, we are told that One thousand years ago, a great Blaze of disaster has swept across Filgaia, killing cows, stealing granny's apple pies and poisoning the water well.. No, no, I'm joking. This Blaze was actually a demon known as Lord Blazer. (Terrifying I know) This bad ass was just running around, fucking up everyone's day and apparently there was no man who could stop his rampage. That was till a young woman appeared, wielding a giant magic sword stepped forward to challenge the demon lord and ultimately did defeat him. Unfortunately, she could not kill him, so instead she offered her life to seal away the flaming douche and save the world. Of course, the people soon forgot her name and her story became the legend of the Sword Magess.

Cool story bro.
1000 years later and the world is a desolate land, dying slowly but surely. Left with only small areas of greenery and life. Oh how nice..

Anyways, we are quickly introduced to the three main characters.

Ashely Winchest - A young man with a heart of gold a yearning to do some good. Typical RPG protagonist, though this time around not silent.

Brand Evans - A big SOB with a power glove. He's your gruff hero with 2 tons of guilt on his shoulder. My favorite.

Lilka Elniak - What RPG could be complete without your lolita mage? Atleast she doesn't have amnesia.

For those of you who have never played, at the start of a new game, you are given a choice to play each main character solo in a introduction chapter. These are used to teach you how each characters skills work in dungeons and in battle. The original 3 Wild Arms use the method to set back stories for the cast. Rather nice touch..

After the opening chapters are complete we are given control of our main hero. The game has a slow start but steadily builds up.

I'm not gonna post the whole story, that's boring and I've already run out of stuff to say.
I'm gonna go play some more and I'll post another blog later.
